Kermit Erasmus joins Motsepe Foundation Championship side
Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Kermit Erasmus has made a surprising move down the SA football pyramid, joining Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars.
Erasmus has been without a club since leaving Pirates at the end of last season. He has been a free agent for the past six months.
Early this season, Erasmus was training with Cape Town Spurs with the hope of securing a contract. But the 34-year-old couldn’t agree on a deal with the club and subsequently left.

He was strongly linked with a move to Betway Premiership side Chippa United a few weeks ago. The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward trained with the club in Gqeberha, but it is reported that they did not agree on the contract terms. He has also been linked with Marumo Gallants and Sekhukhune United.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship side took to their social media platforms on Thursday to announce the arrival of Erasmus.
“All eyes on the new maestro. Join us as we welcome Romeo #10 [number 10] to the Casric Stars family. Let’s make history together,” the club said.
Meanwhile, Casric Stars are in a battle for promotion to the elite league three years into their existence. The club came close in their first season but missed out on promotion by only two points. In their second season, the club finished seventh.
With 16 matches played so far this season, the Mpumalanga-based side is sitting in sixth position with 24 points. They are seven points below log leaders Durban City FC.
The club was recently forced to make a few coaching changes to its technical team. This follows the resignation of Sundra Govinder, who has joined Marumo Gallants as an assistant coach. Club CEO Bucs Mthombeni has returned to the bench after initially stepping aside after the first season.
