Date set for first match at Seshego Stadium
Polokwane Executive Mayor John Mpe has revealed the date for the first Betway Premiership match at the 15,000-capacity Seshego Stadium. The Seshego Stadium was approved by the Premier Soccer League this week after months of renovations.
PSL COO Professor Ronnie Schloss inspected the venue two weeks ago. This publication has gathered that it has now been given the green light to host PSL matches. The last time the venue hosted a premiership match was 23 years ago when the now-defunct Ria Stars were hosting their matches there.
Betway Premiership side Magesi FC and the Municipality already had an agreement in place for the club to utilise it as their home venue.
WHEN IS THE DATE FOR THE FIRST PSL MATCH AT SESHEGO STADIUM AFTER RENOVATIONS
Mpe has now confirmed that they have targeted the match between Magesi FC and Cape Town City on Saturday, 8 February.
“The first date will be on the 8th of February. It will be the home game of Magesi FC against Cape Town City,” Mpe told FARPost.
BIG RITUALS PLANNED FOR THE HISTORIC DAY AS PREMIERSHIP FOOTBALL RETURNS TO LIMPOPO’S BIGGEST TOWNSHIP
“On that day we will have the rituals with the traditional authority of Moletji. As you know Seshego is a Township named after Kgosi Seshego. We will also want them to be part of the rituals of the official launch of the stadium. We will also line up some other activities that will make the situation very nice. So we are taking Cape Town City to the Township.
“We don’t know if they can take us to their Township in Khayelitsha with those kinds of facilities that we have seen on that side. We also think that we are doing well as a Municipality to make Polokwane a sporting capital of South Africa and a preferred destination of choice for sports in the SADC region. That’s what we are doing.”
