‘Jomo Biyela changed my life’: Khanyisa Mayo
CR Belouizdad and Bafana Bafana striker Khanyisa Mayo has recounted how Richards Bay FC chairman Jomo Biyela granted him a life-changing opportunity.
The talented forward’s journey began at Chippa United. He then spent time with SuperSport United’s development, progressing through their reserve team before a loan spell at Ubuntu Cape Town.
He ultimately departed Matsatsantsa permanently and signed with Royal Eagles, who were then competing in the second tier.
After a stint at Eagles, the left-footer then made a move to Richards Bay FC where he excelled during his time in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
He was also instrumental in the team’s third-place finish in the 2020/21 season, where they also had a strong showing in the Nedbank Cup.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with FARPost, Mayo expressed gratitude to both Richards Bay and Royal AM [previously Royal Eagles] for offering him opportunities to prove himself in the second-tier.
He specifically thanked Richards Bay FC’s boss, Jomo Biyela, for recognising his potential while at Royal Eagles and actively pursuing his signature. Mayo believes that Biyela played a crucial role in enabling him to shine and ultimately attract the attention of Cape Town City.
