Magesi FC ‘promote’ Papi Zothwane’s replacement
Magesi FC has appointed a new assistant to coach Owen Da Gama, promoting from within to fill the role previously held by Papi Zothwane. Head coach Clinton Larsen recently stepped down from his position after leading the Limpopo club to victory in the Carling Knockout Cup.
Larsen’s assistant coach, Zothwane, also followed. He has resurfaced at KwaZulu Natal Betway Premiership side Richards Bay.
As the club braces for the season’s second round, they have made a new appointment to bolster Da Gama’s staff.
WHO IS PAPI ZOTHWANE’S REPLACEMENT AT MAGESI FC?
Magesi FC have since elevated their DStv Diski Challenge team coach, Timothy Madia, to the first team to assist newly appointed head coach Owen Da Gama.
Madia will work alongside Da Gama and Jacky Ledwaba to help Magesi FC fight relegation. Da Gama has expressed his desire to maintain the existing coaching staff, with player departures being the primary changes during the transfer window.
The man nicknamed ‘Bazooka’ is not new to the Magesisenior team ranks. He served as an assistant coach in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Following the team’s promotion, he was appointed to coach the DDC team.
Meanwhile, at least seven players have been released, including Malawian defender Limbikani Mzava, Bongani Mpandle, and former Kaizer Chiefs star Kgaogelo Sekgota. Jacob Everson, Njoti Tumelo, Mokhele Maloisane, and Masegela Tholang are also among those let go.
After 13 matches, Magesi FC have recorded only one victory, a 1-0 win against Golden Arrows, leaving them languishing at the bottom of the table in 16th place.
Their struggles are evident in their poor goal-scoring record. They have registered just five goals scored and 15 conceded. On Wednesday, Mamelodi Sundowns edged them 2-1 to extend their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership.
