Morris training with Chiefs despite assistant coach’s denial
Despite Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef remaining mum on new signing Tashreeq Morris, FARPost can confirm the striker has started training with Amakhosi. Ben Youssef played his cards close to the chest when asked about the striker on Thursday.
Amakhosi completed the signing of Morris from SuperSport United recently. Friday’s session should be his third with his new teammates after passing his medical early in the week. The club looks set to announce his arrival in the coming few days.
In a swap deal between Chiefs and SuperSport, the Soweto giants signed Morris while Christian Saile went the opposite direction. However, Saile is still with Amakhosi as he awaits his new visa which will allow him to complete his move to Matsatsantsa.
The former South African youth international, Morris, spent a few months with Matsatsantsa after he was snapped up on a free transfer in October 2024. Morris was a free agent after parting ways with Sekhukhune United at the end of last season. In his short stint with the Tshwane-based outfit, Morris scored two goals in 10 matches across all competitions.
Of his two goals, one was scored when SuperSport beat Chiefs 1-0 in the league at Peter Mokaba Stadium in October last year. The 30-year-old reportedly caught the eyes of coach Nasreddine Nabi who is impressed with his hold-up play and aerial presence in the box. The former Ajax Cape Town attacker is expected to provide an extra option in attack.
KHALIL BEN YOUSSEF MUM ON TASHREEQ MORRIS SIGNING
Speaking ahead of Chiefs’ Nedbank Cup last 32 clash against minnows Free Agents FC, Khali Ben Youssef said he will not comment on the signing of Morris until the club makes the announcement.
“I haven’t seen Morris in my training, the day I see Morris with us or our [media] department post that we signed him, I’ll answer,” Ben Youssef said.
“But at this moment, I only saw Morris when we played against SuperSport, I remember we prepared our team about him.”
The Tunisian coach further revealed that Saile is still at Naturena despite SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt confirming the signing, “Saile is with us, I was with him in the morning.”
As previously reported by FARPost, Kaizer Chiefs have also signed Dr Congo winger Glody Makabi Lilepo from French third-division club Valenciennes FC.
