September explains why Erasmus’ Chippa move collapsed
Chippa United head coach Thabo September has explained how Kermit Erasmus’ move to the club collapsed.
The forward was expected to sign with the Chilli Boys as a free agent. He had been without a club since the end of the previous season when he parted ways with Orlando Pirates.
September was speaking after their Nedbank Cup clash against Golden Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale.
He disclosed that negotiations between Erasmus and Chippa United faltered due to disagreements on “certain things”, ultimately preventing a deal from being finalised.
HOW ERASMUS’ MOVE TO CHIPPA FAILED
“That deal, we couldn’t agree on certain things. Especially the time frame. So we just couldn’t agree,” said September.
“I don’t know who wanted more, the other one wanted short, the other one wanted a little bit of long.”
Had the move materialized, it would have been a reunion for Erasmus and September, who were teammates at SuperSport United before the striker’s transfer to Orlando Pirates.
September feels it was going to be a good acquisition for the club, highlighting Erasmus’ experience and versatility as valuable assets. He also emphasized the positive impact Erasmus’ presence would have on the club’s younger players.
‘IT WAS GOING TO BE GOOD FOR US’
“It was going to be good for us to have him because he can be a striker and can play as a 10,” he added.
“And he’s experienced as well that will drop off to the younger players that we introduced, Giovanni’s [Philander], Papama’s [Tyongwana] and Aviwe [Mqokozo].
“And all these players that are young, it was going to help them. But there is Andile [Jali], there is Justice [Chabalala], there is the other older boys, Eva [Nga], Stanley [Nwabali], that can help the boys. We thought it would help, but it didn’t work out.”
Meanwhile, Erasmus recently made a surprising move to the Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Casric Stars. The Mpumalanga-based side announced his signing on Thursday.
