Mashikinya leaves Baroka, resurfaces at Magesi

Just three months after joining Baroka FC, veteran midfielder Given Mashikinya has parted ways with the club and could be headed to Betway Premiership club Magesi FC.

Mashikinya joined the Motsepe Foundation Championship side in October 2024 on a free transfer after parting ways with Polokwane City FC at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. At Polokwane City FC, he made 29 appearances across all competitions, netting two goals and providing one assist.

After a stint characterised by contractual issues, he made a handful of appearances at Baroka. However, things have not gone smoothly for him, and the two parties have mutually agreed to separate ways.

MASHIKINYA TRAINING WITH MAGESI FC

Following his release from Baroka, Mashikinya trained with Magesi FC on Monday. FARPost has it on good authority that Magesi FC has offered him a short-term contract. If he agrees to the terms, the contract will keep him with the team until the end of the current season.

The short-term arrangement enables the club to assess Mashikinya’s performance and suitability before contemplating a long-term commitment. For the 34-year-old midfielder, it is a chance to make a return to the top flight.

The Carling Knockout Cup winners are desperate to avoid the chop and have entered the market to strengthen their squad.

This is despite the release of players such as Kgaogelo Sekgota, Limbikani Mzava, and Bongani Mpandle. After 13 games in the Betway Premiership, the Limpopo side has only won one.

They drew four times and lost eight, leaving them at the basement of the table with seven points.

Mashikinya would bring a lot of experience to the club. He has previously played for Polokwane City FC, Bloemfontein Celtic, Royal AM, Maritzburg United, Sekhukhune United, and Cape Town City FC, where he won the Telkom Cup.
