Muhsin Ertugral confirms Cupido deal to Sundowns

Cape Town City FC coach Muhsin Ertugral has confirmed Keanu Cupido’s deal to Betway Premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Cupido has been in the Citizens’ books since 2018, joining them from French Ligue 2 club AC Ajaccio B.

According to local reports, the talented defender has signed a deal worth over R10 million with Bafana Ba Style.

The 27-year-old also represented teams such as Diambars Football Academy and Bidvest Wits before joining AC Ajaccio in France.

WHAT MUHSIN ERTUGRAL SAID ABOUT KEANU CUPIDO’S TRANSFER TO MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Ertugral revealed that Cupido’s transfer to Masandawana is a done deal, and he’s happy for him as the player seeks a new challenge for his football career.

The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor spoke after their 2-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United in their Nedbank Cup Last 32 fixture at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Monday night.

However, Ertugral remains content that Cupido’s move to Sundowns won’t affect much of his defence as they still have young, talented players like Sibusiso Ziba, whom he wanted to introduce tonight.

“Yeah, the deal has been done. Keanu, obviously, is a great player. He looks for bigger challenges for himself, and he deserves it,” said Ertugral.

“So, I think we’re good in the defensive line. We still have the youngster Sibusiso Ziba, and I was thinking I could give him a chance today.”

Cupido’s will replace Rushine De Reuck, who has moved to Israel to join Maccabi Petah Tikva on a six-month loan deal, where he will be gunning for more playing time.

With the CAF Champions League, Betway Premiership, the Nedbank Cup and the FIFA World Club Cup on the cards, the arrival of Cupido will come in handy.

The Brazilians are also expected to announce the acquisition of Argentine defender Lucas Suarez in due course.
