Petro Luanda outline their plans for the on loan Gilberto

Angolan giants Petro de Luanda have outlined their plans for Gilberto who returned to the club on loan from Orlando Pirates.

After six months with Orlando Pirates, the 23-year-old Gilberto was loaned back to Petro de Luanda last week.

Having signed a three-year contract, he has struggled to fit in coach José Riveiro‘s arsenal and struggled for game time.

Undoubtedly, Gilberto failed to live up to his billing in a season where the Soweto giants started the Betway Premiership on a high note.

All in all, he made 12 appearances in all competitions with no goals and assists under his belt.

He could not shrugg off stiff competition from the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng, Deon Hotto and Mohau Nkotha.

Gilberto joined the list of players who have exited Pirates in the January transfer window. Defender Sandile Mthethwa joined AmaZulu FC while attacker Katlego Otladisa moved to Sekhukhune United on loan.

For Gilberto, this is an oppurtunity to revive himself in his native home, where he initially carved a niche.

As such, Petro de Luanda have revealed their plans for Gilberto, when he will start playing. Gilberto will be expected to get more game time in Angola.

According to the club, the forward will start playing in the second round of the Angola’s Girabola 2024-2025 season.

At the moment, 13 games have been played, with three games remaining before the halfway mark.

“Angolan international Gilberto Vieira “Gibelé”, sold last year to South African team Orlando Pirates, has been loaned to Petro Atlético de Luanda for a season.

“The athlete, who has attracted the interest of several African teams, as a result of his performances in the last African Nations Cup [CAN], will play in the second round of the Girabola 2024-2025, a competition led indisputably by the reigning national champions.

“The Angolan international is another “asset” available to coach Ricardo Chéu to help the club win yet another title. Much loved by the Tricolor Nation, due to his dribbling, Gibelé is a reference in national football,” the club said.
