Chippa United coach Thabo September has revealed the club’s mission for Livingston loanee Aphelele Teto before his return to Scotland.

The young left-footer joined Chippa United at the beginning of the season. He had been unable to play in the Scottish Premiership due to the denial of a work permit by the Governing Body Endorsement panel.

Following his transfer to Livingston on a four-year contract in August 2023, he was unsuccessful in obtaining a work permit. A second application submitted in January 2024 similarly proved unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, at Chippa, he has AmaZulu nine appearances across various competitions, including the Betway Premiership, Carling Knockout Cup, and Nedbank Cup.

Teto was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance in their Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash with Golden Arrows on Saturday when Chippa United emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline, securing their place in the next round.

September said the club is assisting Teto in his pursuit of a spot on the South Africa Under-23 team. International recognition could significantly improve his prospects of obtaining a work permit when he returns to his parent club in Scotland.

The Chippa gaffer added that they maintain regular communication with Livingston’s coach regarding the player’s progress.

WHAT APHELELE TETO NEEDS TO BOOST CHANCES FOR WORK PERMIT IN SCOTLAND

“Yes, we keep in touch and we do talk with the head coach,” said September

“I think the most important thing for him before he goes back to Scotland is to try to get into the U23.

“But of course our national team, not much games happening in that level. Because the reason that he came back for a loan, they needed him to be an international player, to play, to have a cap.

“So, we’re pushing that side that he performs well and get the recognition from the national team coaches.”
