Darrel Matsheke signs short-term deal with Kruger United

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Darrel Matsheke has penned a short-term deal with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Kruger United, FARPost has learnt.

The 26-year-old midfielder made a move to the Mpumalanga-based club, continuing his career in the second tier following his departure from Pretoria Callies where he had a brief stint.

He had joined Callies in October along with Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya on a free transfer after being unattached for more than six months following his exit from Stellenbosch FC.

Looking to continue bringing his career to life in the second-tier, Matsheke inked a five-month contract with Kruger.

Matsheke joins the likes of Lehlohonolo Nonyane and George Maluleka.

The duo also possesses immense top-flight experience with Nonyane having played for Mpumalanga Black Aces turned Cape Town City, Jomo Cosmos, Golden Arrows, Bidvest Wits, TTM and Baroka FC. Meanwhile, Maluleka has previously been with Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United and AmaZulu.

Nicholus Lukhubeni is another familiar face, having played for clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns, Maritzburg United, Moroka Swallows, and Cape Town Spurs.

Matsheke also brings significant experience having donned the shirt of the mighty Kaizer Chiefs, a club where he progressed through the youth ranks to the first team.

He had loan spells at the now-defunct Uthongathi FC [second-tier] and Moroka Swallows. Thereafter, he then moved to Cape  Winelands side before joining Pretoria Callies.

His addition is expected to significantly enhance the team’s midfield as Kruger pursues promotion to the Betway Premiership next season.

They are placed seventh in the league standings having accumulated 23 points after 16 league matches.

Matsheke could make his debut when Kruger take on Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday, 28 January in the Nedbank Cup clash at 19:00.
