Magesi sign former Richards Bay midfielder Boikanyo Komane

Magesi FC look set to complete the signing of former Richards Bay defensive midfielder Boikanyo Komane on deadline day. Komane has been playing his football for Motsepe Foundation Championship side JDR.

However, the veteran midfielder has since left the Pretoria club. The 32-year-old was spotted at the offices of Magesi FC in Polokwane. According to sources, he was scheduled for a routine medical examination before completing his move.

Magesi are stuck at the bottom of the table, having only managed one win in 13 games. They will be looking to the experience of the likes of Komane. The gritty midfield grafter has previously had stints at Royal Eagles and Thanda Royal Zulu.

In 2018, Komane went on to Chippa United and was a regular in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 South African Premier Division.

BOIKANYO KOMANE GETS A CHANCE TO PLAY IN THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP

At some point in his career, his talent led to considerations for him as a potential replacement for Kaizer Chiefs’ Willard Katsande or SuperSport United’s Dean Furman.

However, he joined Lamontville Golden Arrows, where he played only one match during his two-year tenure. After a strong year in the First Division with All Stars, he earned a move back to the topflight in 2023, signing with Richards Bay.

After a short stint in the second-tier, he gets another dance in the Betway Premiership, this time with Magesi. Interestingly, the Limpopo side are also on the verge of bringing in Given Mashikinya from Baroka FC. Mashikinya also cut ties with the Motsepe Foundation club.

The club has been active in the transfer market, releasing about seven players, including Kgaogelo Sekgota, Bongani Mpandle and Limbikani Mzava. Owen Da Gama will be hoping his new additions will help steer the team away from the relegation zone.
