Limbikani Mzava at Venda FC after Magesi exit

After being released by Magesi FC, veteran centre-back Limbikani Mzava is training with the Motsepe Foundation side of Venda Football Club.

FARPost has been informed that the 31-year-old centre-back began training with the struggling Limpopo side on Wednesday to secure a possible new contract.

The Malawian defender seemed to be settling in well after joining the Betway Premiership newcomers. Despite having 10 years of PSL experience, Mzava had spent two seasons without a team.

However, Clinton Larsen lured the Flames defence stalwart to the Limpopo side. Mzava featured in all four matches on Magesi’s FC way to lifting the Carling Knockout Cup.

Save for the Orlando Pirates match, he started all the other matches in the competition. In the league, he made six starts for the club.

However, he was offloaded following the arrival of Owen Da Gama, who replaced Larsen. He will be hoping to impress at Venda, who are struggling in the second tier of South African football.

COULD LIMBIKANI MZAVA BE THE ANSWER FOR VENDA FOOTBALL CLUB?

Venda are currently in 15th place with 12 points after 16 games. They have won three matches, drawn three, and lost 10. Interestingly, they have conceded 23 goals in 16 games and may be looking to strengthen their defence.

Mzava, now a free agent, looks like a player who can strengthen the team in defence.

The 31-year-old arrived in South Africa as a teenager to join Bloemfontein Celtic. He later switched teams to join Mpumalanga Black Aces. Mzava subsequently had stints with Golden Arrows, Highlands Park and AmaZulu.

In addition to the recent Carling Cup triumph, the Blantyre-born star also won the Nedbank Cup with Celtic in 2012 under Larsen.

Mzava began his professional career with Tigers in Malawibefore moving to Escom United. That year, he also led the Malawi under-17 squad to the World Under-17 Cup in Nigeria and the finals of the 2009 Africa Youth Championship in Algeria.
