Nedbank Cup Round of 16 draw keeps PSL’s big three apart

The potential for blockbuster clashes between the PSL’s “big three” in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 has been averted following the draw.

The draw took place on Wednesday, 29 January at the SuperSport studios and was televised on SuperSport channel 202.

The defending champions Orlando Pirates were pitted against the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC. The match will be played at the Buccaneers’ backyard, Orlando Stadium.

Ezimnyama Ngenkani began their Nedbank Cup title defence with a 3-1 victory over Richards Bay FC, keeping their hopes of a three-peat alive, having won the trophy twice consecutively.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs will welcome Betway Premiership rivals Chippa United as they look to go through all the way to end their decade-long trophy drought. Amakhosi secured the spot in the Last 16 after a 4-0 triumph over Free Agents.

And just like the Sea Robbers, Mamelodi Sundowns have been drawn against the second-tier outfit Mpheni Home Defenders. The previous season’s finalists downed Sibanye Golden Stars in the Round of 32

The Premier Soccer League will announce the dates, times and venues in due course.
