What Da Gama said as Sam move to Magesi hit a snag

Kaizer Chiefs defender Bongani Sam

Magesi FC’s pursuit of Kaizer Chiefs defender Bongani Sam has hit a snag, with coach Owen Da Gama sharing his views on the failed move.

Sam seemed set to reunite with Da Gama at Dikwena Tsa Meetse, but negotiations between Amakhosi and the Limpopo club collapsed, with the PSL January transfer window period closed on Tuesday night.

The 27-year-old left-back joined the Glamour Boys at the beginning of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season from Orlando Pirates.

However, Sam hasn’t featured in any game for Chiefs in the SA elite league. He only made an appearance in a friendly cup competition in the CUFA Cup late last year.

His journey at Nasreddine Nabi-coached side started on the wrong foot as he succumbed to a knee injury during Amakhosi’s pre-season training camp in Turkey.

WHAT OWEN DA GAMA SAID ABOUT BONGANI SAM’S LINKS TO MAGESI FC

Da Gama revealed that there were still a lot of issues in the negotiations that needed to be sorted out before the move could be finalised.

The ‘Rubberdol’, as he is popularly known, was speaking to the media following their 2-0 loss to SuperSport United in their Nedbank Cup Last 32 encounter at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

“Well, I cannot reveal that because there are a lot of negotiations carrying on, and they are trying to finalise the issues,” said Day Gama.

“So, how quickly they will be able to do that, and whether they can do that, it’s a very difficult question to answer.”

In the just-closed transfer window, Magesi managed to bring in Ntsako Makhubela, Lehlohonolo Mtshali, Mcedi Vandala, Camren Ashby and Thabang Sibanyoni. The side believes the new players will add value to the team and help them survive the relegation zone.
