Bantu Mzwakali parts ways with Saudi Arabian club, eyes PSL return
Former Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits attacker Bantu Mzwakali is eyeing a return to the PSL after parting ways with Saudi Arabian club Al-Shaeib FC.
The well-travelled midfielder has returned to South Africa after spending one year with Al-Shaeib FC. Mzwakali joined the club in January 2024, and he’s back on the market after having an unsuccessful stay in the Gulf region. He failed to make any official appearance.
Before signing with Al-Shaeib, Mzwakali plied his trade in Georgia for about three years. In that period, the journeyman featured for FC Metalurgi Rustavi, FC Dila Gori and FC Shukura Kobuleti.
He made his debut in the SA top flight with Ajax Cape Town [now known as Cape Town Spurs]. The attacking midfielder made a name for himself at Ajax with over 100 appearances under his belt. At the club, he scored seven goals and provided nine assists.
In his promising career, the 31-year-old also played for teams such as Chippa United, Moroka Swallows, Bidvest Wits, and Cape Umoya United. Abroad, he had a stint at Swedish top-flight side IF Brage.
BANTU MZWAKALI SPENT ONE YEAR IN SAUDI ARABIA
While Mzwakali has proven to be one of the most talented players in the PSL, his career stagnated after struggling to find a stable club in the past few years.
The winger is currently searching for a club in the Betway Premiership after spending one year in the second division of Saudi Arabia.
“Bantu Mzwakali is back in South Africa, and he’s searching for a team because he’s a player that still has a lot to offer,” a source told FARPost.
“We all know what Mzwakali can do but I think he’s just been unfortunate with finding a good team with coaches who will believe in him.
“But another thing is that you know, in South Africa, when players are on the other side of 30 years, it becomes a bit difficult to get a contract.”
Mzwakali joins a long list of players who are without contracts, such as Ndumiso Mabena, Luvuyo Memela, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Onismor Bhasera, Sifiso Hlanti and Jackson Mabokgwane.
