Magesi FC owner weighs in on Owen Da Gama’s tenure
Chairman of Magesi FC Solly Makhubela has shared his thoughts on coach Owen Da Gama’s performance at the helm of the team so far this season.
The former Orlando Pirates coach took over at the struggling side in December last year after the departure of Clinton Larsen. The latter resigned after a poor start to life in the SA elite league. But he led the Betway Premiership newcomers Magesi to the Carling Knockout Cup triumph.
With Magesi rooted at the bottom of the log with 17 matches to play, the club’s chairman, Makhubela, remains positive that they will turn the corner under the guidance of Owen Da Gama.
Da Gama has been in charge for four matches in both the Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup. The club suffered three defeats with one draw under Da Gama.
SOLLY MAKHUBELA OPTIMISTIC THAT COACH OWEN DA GAMA WILL CHANGE THE FORTUNES
“I am happy so far. I give all the coaches a chance,” said Makhubela during the Seshego Stadium inspection.
“You would remember when I took Clinton Larsen. I took him from the lower leagues [ABC Motsepe League], but no one expected Larsen to come and take Magesi up. The same thing as Da Gama. I found him in the lower league. I am very positive.”
Makhubela also added that he was not surprised that former coach Clinton Larsen had to relinquish his duties following poor results.
“I was not surprised because coaches come and go. They will always come and go. Why should I be surprised? They all come and go.”
FEW NEW FACES AND EXITS CONFIRMED AT LIMPOPO-BASED CLUB MAGESI FC
The club has welcomed a few new faces into the team, including Ntsako Makhubela, Camren Ashby and Lehlohonolo Mtshali.
Players such as Kgaogelo Sekgota, Limbikani Mzava, Kgaogelo Sekgota, Jacob Everson, Njoti Tumelo, Mokhele Maloisane, Masegela Tholang, and Bongani Mpandle have been released.
“Some of them are [released] because of performance. If you look at the players, the media, you will be upfront with these things,” explained Makhubela.
“You will see they never played in the league or any competitions; you will have the answer for that. You need to wake up and write things you know. If some players don’t perform, the coach will take them away; it’s not about me.”
