SuperSport CEO – ‘Ime Okon might play his last game against AmaZulu’

The upcoming fixture between AmaZulu FC and SuperSport United might be Ime Okon’s last for Matsatsantsa, according to the club’s CEO Stan Matthews, who revealed that the player had offers from two “big clubs” abroad.

The 20-year-old centre-back recently returned from a trial with the Ukrainian giants, Dynamo Kyiv. He reportedly traveled to Ukraine in the first week of January 2025.

Okon recently made a return to the team, featuring in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 against Magesi FC after missing four Betway Premiership matches.

Prior to his return against Dikwena Tsa Meetse, he had last played for the Swanky Boys on 6 December 2024, in a league victory over Richards Bay.

Matthews has anticipated that Okon might don SuperSport’s colours for the last time against Usuthu at Moses Mabhida Stadium “if everything goes according to plan” regarding a potential transfer.

However, he remained tight-lipped about the clubs that had tabled offers for the young defender.

STAN MATTHEWS – ‘WE’VE GOT TWO OPPORTUNITIES FOR IME’

“We’ve got Ime Okon, we’ve got two opportunities for Ime that have come in and both big clubs,” said Stan Matthews.

“So, yes, I anticipate that in the next few days, Ime will probably also be going abroad and that probably tomorrow night will probably be the last game for the club. If everything goes according to plan.”

Besides Dynamo Kyiv, Okon was also the subject of interest from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland, who assessed him in January 2024. The side reportedly engaged in transfer talks with SuperSport for the defender.

Okon joined SuperSport in 2022 from the Johannesburg amateur club Randburg Football Club. He was promoted to the senior team in the 2022/23 season where he quickly established himself as a regular in the starting lineup.

In 2023, he was part of the Bafana Bafana’s 36-man preliminary squad that was going to play DR Congo and Namibia. However, he missed out in the final cut.
