Cardoso sets record straight on Mkhulise’s transfer rumours
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has set the record straight on the transfer rumours linking Sphelele Mkhulise with a move away from the club.
Mkhulise was in the starting line-up when Sundowns claimed an impressive 4-0 win over Golden Arrows at Loftus Versfeld Stadium this past weekend in the Betway Premiership.
The talented midfielder was substituted in the 37th minute of the first half, making way for Peter Shalulile, who went on to score a brace. Lucas Ribeiro and Teboho Mokoena were also on the score sheet for The Brazilians as they moved six points clear from second-placed Orlando Pirates on the Betway Premiership log.
Meanwhile, ‘Blesser’, as he’s affectionately known, has been one of the players rumoured to be on their way out of Chloorkop in the past few days.
In the January transfer window, Downs loaned out Thembinkosi Lorch, Lebohang Moboe, and Rushine De Reuck, while Lesiba Nku and Luvuyo Phewa have been let go on a permanent basis.
MIGUEL CARDOSO DISPEL RUMOURS ON SPHELELE MKHULISE’S TRANSFER
Speaking after the match against Arrows, Cardoso dispelled the rumours on Mkhulise, revealing that there are no plans to let the club’s youth product go out the exit door at Sundowns.
“Any moment a player goes out, it doesn’t mean you are bad in the match; it’s just a tactical approach. The values of the team come before the individual values; that’s how I approach it,” Cardoso said.
“At half-time, I told Pitso [Mkhulise] that you came out not because you are playing bad but because we needed to approach the game in a different way.
“If I knew that the approach from the opponents would be one that was set on the pitch, I probably would have started the game in a different way.
“By the way, I can make it clear and take it in my hands. I spoke to the team during the week so that we are clear that there are no issues regarding Pitso or a transfer on him.
“He’s a player that we like so much, we trust him, and he has been playing in the team, so finish that so that we don’t speak about it again this year.”
