Ex-Chiefs star opens up on coaching struggles
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane says he admires the courage shown by PSL clubs that hire local coaches and remains optimistic that he will also get his chance.
Mlwane is currently the coach of SAFA Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League side The Bees. His side was knocked out of the Nedbank Cup in the Last 32 stage by Polokwane City FC.
It is not the first lower division side that Mlwane has been in charge of. He was also at the helm at Ditlou FC who play in the same league in Limpopo.
HUMPHREY MLWANE REMAINS POSITIVE THAT HIS CHANCE TO COACH AT PSL LEVEL WILL COME
“If life was fair, I could have been far because I have an A license,” said Mlwane. “In South Africa, you find some coaches coaching in other divisions, but they don’t even have a license. But I am patient that maybe somebody or a team will see my work in terms of coaching because I started coaching in 2006 after I retired.
“But I won’t give up because I also want to coach in the PSL in future or even be an assistant coach. I want to show my work to the world and the South African public,” he added.
FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STAR COMMEND CLUBS WHICH HIRE LOCAL BLACK COACHES
“I am happy the chairman of Polokwane City, [Johnny Mogaladi], gave someone like [Phuti] Mohafe a chance to coach the team, and he is doing well. He is competing with top coaches and he is also qualified.
“You can see he knows and understands the game. If we can get a chairmen like that, our game will improve. It also means we, as black coaches, will get a chance to coach at the high level.”
