Vilakazi on Chiefs clash: ‘Arthur Zwane knows them in and out’

AmaZulu FC co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has revealed how Usuthu plan to “rely” on his colleague, former Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane, in their upcoming match against Amakhosi.

The Durban-based club face off against The Phefeni Glamour Boys in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday, 4 February at the FNB Stadium in Soweto.

Nasreddine Nabi’s troops will be looking to bounce back from their Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates, while the KZN side is confident after a home win against SuperSport United.

AmaZulu plan to leverage Zwane’s experience, who, having been with Chiefs’ first team as both assistant and head coach from 2021 to 2023, “knows them inside and out” according to Vilakazi.

Zwane also served as Chiefs’ senior academy coach before joining AmaZulu in 2024.

VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI SAYS THEY ARE PLANNING TO RELY ON ZWANE WHEN THEY FACE CHIEFS

“I think if you remember very well, last game, I’m the one who did the interviews,” said Vilakazi after their 2-1 victory against SuperSport United on Saturday.

“But I decided that let me take this one today so that he can be able to face his people on Tuesday.

“So, it’s an honest fact: he knows Kaizer Chiefs in and out. Yes, they’ve got a new coach right now but the weaknesses and strong points, he knows them.

“So, we’re going rely on him and try to back him up where we can. Just like it happened today [Saturday], I’m the one who knows Gavin [Hunt] very well, so he gave me a chance to say, ‘Can you deal with this person of yours’.”

Vilakazi further stated that AmaZulu ought to take advantage of Chiefs’ vulnerable state following their loss to their arch-rivals Buccaneers.

VILAKAZI – ‘WE NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CHIEFS DERBY LOSS’

“I think we need to take advantage of the fact that they suffered a defeat today [against Pirates] when they were playing,” he added.

“So, the recovery towards the victory isn’t easy at all. We are coming with confidence, and from the game that was very tough today, but we were victorious. And we believe in ourselves that on the day if we come out of our closet, we will do wonders.

“So, I think it will give us an advantage psychologically that these people are coming from the loss. Let’s capitalise while they are still trying to fix their things.”
