Gavin Hunt unpacks decision to bring Saile to SuperSport

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has unpacked the decision to bring former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Christian Saile to the club.

The left-footed winger joined SuperSport during the 2025 January transfer after struggling to make a significant impact at Chiefs.

Saile was part of the swap deal between Chiefs and SuperSport, which saw striker Tashreeq Morris join Amakhosi. Before signing with the Tshwane-based side, Saile featured in seven matches in the league for Chiefs and failed to get onto the score sheet or provide any assist.

In his debut for SuperSport United, the DR Congo international scored, opening his scoring account for the 2024/25 season. Saile netted the second goal when The Spartans defeated Magesi FC 2-0 in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium most recently.

After making an immediate impact in SuperSport colours, Gavin Hunt explained that Saile was signed due to his pace and the dimension he brings to the team.

“I can’t get involved in how it [the deal for Saile] happened, you know. We needed some more pace up front,” said Hunt. “So he will give us that, and people think when a player leaves, you want to get this player on that player…we have to take what we can get.

“He will add value with pace, and that’s what we are looking for in the long run in that perspective, so he’s different from what we had.”

Christian Saile will be looking to help SuperSport claim maximum points in the Tshwane Derby against Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.

Sundowns are coming into this match high on confidence after claiming an emphatic 4-0 victory over Golden Arrows at Loftus Versfeld Stadium last Sunday.

On the other hand, Matsatsantsa suffered a 2-1 defeat against AmaZulu FC in the league at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 1st February 2025.
