Joel Masutha resigns as Baroka coach
FARPost has gathered that Baroka FC head coach Joel Masutha has resigned from his position with speculation that he is set for a sensational return to Black Leopards.
Masutha has been in charge at Baroka since November last year after taking over from Foster Hlongwane, who was in charge on an interim basis.
The 52-year-old took over a Baroka side that had mixed fortunes in terms of results earlier in the season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. He was tasked with taking the team back to the Betway Premiership.
The club was placed at the bottom half of the table after a few games. In the nine matches that he has been in charge of, Masutha won five, with three draws and one defeat.
That defeat came in the hands of his former side, Venda FC, during a Motsepe Foundation Championship match this past weekend.
NFD SIDE BLACK LEOPARDS TO REUNITE WITH FORMER COACH?
Masutha tendered his resignation letter on Wednesday morning with immediate effect, FARPost has been informed. He leaves Baroka in sixth position on the log with 24 points from 17 matches in the second-tier league.
It’s unclear what his role would be at Lidoda Duvha, but this publication has established that he could also be roped in as part of the technical team led by ex-Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques.
Speculation has been rife in the past few days that Masutha could reunite with Leopards. Leopards recently hired Marques as the head coach, with Abel Makhubela as an assistant. The changes come following the departure of Ghanaian Maxwell Konadu and his assistant Solly Luvhengo at Leopards.
The pair left the club after the loss to Leruma United. They also leave the club 10th on the table, 11 points behind leaders Durban City FC.
