After the Soweto Derby over the weekend, the attention turned to the Betway Premiership Tshwane Derby, where Tashreeq Matthews scored a brace as Mamelodi Sundowns beat SuperSport United 3-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.

MIGUEL CARDOSO SECURES HIS SIXTH STRAIGHT LEAGUE WIN

Bafana Ba Style coach Miguel Cardoso has become the second Masandawana manager in PSL history to secure victories in all of his first six league matches at the helm of the club.

He follows Rulani Mokwena, who claimed 11 victories as the sole head coach of Sundowns, ending in February 2023.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS DOMINATE THE TSHWANE DERBY

The Chloorkop-based team has been prevailing in the Tshwane Derby. In fact, they have three victories, one tie, and one defeat in their last five league encounters.

In their opening league game of the season, The Brazilians secured a 2-0 victory against Matsatsantsa.

SuperSport have faced challenges in finding their rhythm this season, as Sundowns have achieved a league double against them.

TASHREEQ MATTHEWS SCORES BRACE, JAYDEN ADAMS OPENS HIS ACCOUNT FOR SUNDOWNS

Sundowns’ new acquisition, Jayden Adams, opened his account for Masandawana, having joined them from Stellenbosch FC in the January transfer window.

Adams broke the deadlock as early as 11 minutes into the showpiece to put Sundowns in front.

In the 44th minute of the contest, Tashreeq Matthews added to the scoreline, giving Sundowns a 2-0 lead going into the interval.

However, Matthews did not stop there as he completed his brace just four minutes into the second stanza.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS CRUISING NICELY ON THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP TABLE

As things stand, Sundowns are cruising nicely on top of the Betway Premiership table with 39 points after 14 matches. Masandawana are six points ahead of the second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have a game in hand.
