Former Pirates winger joins ambitious ABC Motsepe League side

Former Orlando Pirates winger Roger Majafa has joined ambitious ABC Motsepe side Gomora United for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

Majafa is expected to help Gomora fight for promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship next season.
The Alexandra-based team is currently occupying the second spot on the league table with 38 points after 18 games. They won 11 matches, drew five and lost only two times.

In a move to increase their chances of sealing promotion, Gomora United also roped in Jonny Ferreira as the head coach, while ex-Pirates left-back Patrick Phungwayo is serving as the assistant coach.

Ferreira is an experienced coach after leading teams such as FC Cape Town, Uthongathi FC, Sekhukhune United, Polokwane City FC, Venda FC, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC, and Black Leopards in the PSL.

Meanwhile, Gomora United have also welcomed another former Pirates player, Rooi Mahamutsa, to solidify their centre-back position.

The veteran defender signed to play in the third division of SA football after parting ways with Botswana Premier League outfit VTM FC in August 2024.

In a major addition for the club, The Giraffes have signed talented left winger Roger Majafa to beef up their attack.

The 34-year-old is a skilful midfielder who can break down defensive lines and run at defenders. Majafa broke into the scene in the 2014/15 season with Polokwane City.

After a promising start to his career, he moved to The Buccaneers the following season. However, he struggled to make a meaningful impact.

Majafa left Orlando Pirates after just one season, and he went on to play for teams such as TS Sporting, Free Agents FC and Young Africans of Namibia.

The left-footed attacker is the latest addition to the handful of ex-PSL players in the ABC Motsepe League, namely Khethokwakhe Masuku, Joseph Malogoane, Tebogo Langerman, Edward Manqele, Luvuyo Nomandela, and Thabiso Nkoana.
