PSL announce monthly awards winners for January
The Premier Soccer League [PSL] have announced the winners of the Betway Premiership awards for January 2025.
Sekhukhune United’s Andy Boyeli, Cape Town City FC interim coach Muhsin Ertugral and Mamelodi Sundowns frontman Lucas Ribeiro are the confirmed winners of Player of the Month, Coach of the Month and Goal of the Month, respectively.
Babina Noko forward Boyeli was named the Player of the Month following his stellar displays for the month of January, where he scored four goals. This was against AmaZulu FC, along with an impressive hat-trick versus SuperSport United.
The Congolese striker joined the Limpopo club in July 2024 from Power Dynamos FC. So far, he has banged five goals in 14 league appearances for Sekhukhune.
Ertugral, who took over the coaching reins at Cape Town City after the sacking of Eric Tinkler, was awarded the Coach of the Month accolade.
The Citizens appointed Ertugral as their Technical Director in January this year. He is also serving as the club’s interim head coach until the end of the season.
He took the award home after he secured three wins out of four games. Two wins came from the Soweto giants teams Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, his former teams. The other two wins were from the games against Sekhukhune and Polokwane City FC.
LUCAS RIBEIRO WINS GOAL OF THE MONTH
The Masandawana star, Ribeiro, walked away with the Betway Premiership Goal of the Month for his acrobatic goal against struggling Magesi FC.
“Ribeiro’s goal edged equally intense competition from Mfundo Vilakazi’s solo strike in Kaizer Chiefs’ victory over Sekhukhune United, as well as Devin Titus’ clinical finish for Stellenbosch FC in their win over AmaZulu FC,” read the PSL statement.
Overall, the Brazilian-born goal-scorer has netted seven league goals and provided five assists. Ribeiro is currently the Betway Premiership’s leading top goal-scorer.
