Stellenbosch FC to miss highly-rated star for Chiefs clash
Stellenbosch FC are set to miss a highly-rated star for their crucial Betway Premiership clash against Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.
The Maroons will welcome Chiefs at the Athlone Stadium in Stellenbosch on Friday, 7th of February 2025, with the match scheduled for a 19:30 kickoff.
In the first round of the league match between the two clubs, Amakhosi defeated Stellenbosch 2-1 at FNB Stadium in Soweto, with Wandile Duba scoring a brace.
Stellenbosch will be looking for revenge and also return to winning ways against Amakhosi after playing to a 1-1 with Sekhukhune United last Saturday at home.
On the other hand, The Glamour Boys will be hoping to end their two-match winless run in the league. Chiefs lost 1-0 in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates last weekend before playing to an entertaining 2-2 draw against AmaZulu FC this past Tuesday.
FAWAAZ BASADIEN TO MISS KAIZER CHIEFS MATCH DUE TO SUSPENSION
With Stellenbosch gunning for maximum points at home against Chiefs, they will be without the services of key defender Fawaaz Basadien.
The talented left-back will serve a one-match suspension after receiving his fourth yellow card of the season against Sekhukhune.
Basadien has been a standout performer for the Winelands-based side after featuring in 27 matches across all competitions in the current campaign, scoring six goals and providing six assists.
Interestingly, the 28-year-old has been on the wishlist of Chiefs; however, the move could materialise as neither team could agree on the transfer fee.
In the past two transfer windows, Stellenbosch have sold players such as Iqraam Rayners, Deano Van Rooyen, Jayden Adams, Qobolwakhe Sibande, Mervin Boji, Anicet Oura, and Antonio Van Wyk.
After failing to secure the signing of Basadien, the Soweto giants settled for Bongani Sam and Bradley Cross at the start of the 2024/25 season.
Meanwhile, other players who are suspended for weekend’s matches in the Premiership are Siphesihle Mkhize, Edson Khumalo, Siyabulela Shai, Yanela Mbuthuma, Siyabonga Ndebele, and Eric Mbangossoum.
