Edwin Gyimah linked with a move to Betway Premiership side
Former Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates defender Edwin Gyimah has been linked with a return to the Betway Premiership for the second round of the season.
The Ghanaian defender has been without a club since the end of last season after parting ways with Babina Noko.
During his time at the club, Gyimah featured 71 times in all competitions with four goals to his name. The 33-year-old has not been attached to any club since then.
Gyimah had a trial at Marumo Gallants after leaving Sekhukhune but failed to impress the coaches at the Bloemfontein-based side last year in July.
WHICH BETWAY PREMIERSHIP CLUB COULD EDWIN GYIMAH BE JOINING?
FARPost has established that Gyimah spent a few days training with Magesi FC last week. Indications are that the negotiations between the player and the club were at an advanced stage.
Magesi could do with a seasoned defender like Gyimah after conceding 19 goals in the Betway Premiership this season. The club remains at the bottom of the log with only eight points from the first 15 matches.
OTHER TEAMS AFTER THE SIGNATURE OF FORMER SEKHUKHUNE UNITED DEFENDER?
This publication has further gathered that Premiership newcomers Magesi are not the only club interested in his signature. Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda FC are also said to have shown huge interest in the player. Venda have been beefing up their squad since the arrival of new coach Stanford Nkoane.
The two teams are not the only ones interested in the ex-Pirates player, as Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak FC are also in the picture. Hearts of Oak are 21-time Ghanaian Premiership champions. They are currently fourth in the log this season. They have reportedly shown serious interest in the player.
Gyimah has spent a few years playing for clubs such as SuperSport United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Pirates, Bidvest and Black Leopards in South Africa. He has also played for Helsingborgs IF in Sweden.
The hard-tackling man was part of the Ghana national team at the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] hosted by Gabon in 2017.
