Lilepo’s solo goal earns Chiefs victory against Stellenbosch
Glody Lilepo’s solo goal was enough to earn Kaizer Chiefs maximum points as they beat Stellenbosch FC 1-0 in a Betway Premiership clash at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Friday night.
Below are some of the talking points from this tie.
STELLENBOSCH FC AND KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYED IN A SOLD-OUT AFFAIR
The tickets for this entertaining showdown between Stellies and Amakhosi were officially sold out a few hours before the kick-off of the match.
As always, the fans’ abundant cheers and sounds from the stands amplified the game’s thrill and enjoyment for a sold-out encounter.
STELLENBOSCH FC’S OMEGA MDAKA PLAYING AGAINST HIS FORMER CLUB
The Steve Barker-coached side had a former Chiefs youth player in the name of Omega Mdaka. The 21-year-old started with the game showing what he can do in the field of play when given a chance.
Mdaka left Chiefs not on good terms as he was one of the players who were shown the exit door by The Glamour Boys Diski Challenge [DDC] side after they refused to be ball retrievers in a Carling Knockout Cup game against AmaZulu FCÂ in October 2023.
GLODY LILEPO SCORES FOR KAIZER CHIEFS
Glody Lilepo opened his account for the Soweto giants against Stellenbosch just four minutes into the contest, thanks to Gaston Sirino’s assist.
Lilepo, a Congolese international, joined Nasreddine Nabi’s side from French club Valenciennes FC in the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old winger signed a two-and-a-half-year agreement with Chiefs. His contract includes an option for an additional year.
OTHER BETWAY PREMIERSHIP FIXTURE RESULT
In another Betway Premiership fixture, AmaZulu were able to secure a 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants. The game took place at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The in-form Rowan Human broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute of the tie after excellent work by Tshepang Moremi. In the 60th minute, Wayde Jooste added to the scoreline to seal a win for Usuthu at home.
