Nabi and Bobby Motaung in sync on Chiefs’ “process”

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, and football manager Bobby Motaung sing from the same hymn sheet regarding the “process” aimed at transforming the club’s fortunes. The two conveyed the same message to the club’s fans on Friday night.

This follows the team completing a league double over Stellenbosch FC after defeating them 1-0 at home. Three weeks ago, Chiefs also overcame Stellies at FNB Stadium with a score of 2-1 before securing a win in the reverse fixture in Cape Town

Glody Lilepo rose above everyone to nod in a beautiful cross from Gaston Sirino. Amakhosi maintained their early lead to achieve their seventh league victory of the season.

The win propelled the Chiefs to fourth place on the Betway Premiership log, although they played more matches than fifth-placed Sekhukhune United.

Nabi has been under fire recently, and some in the Amakhosi fanbase have questioned whether he is the right man for the job.

However, an elated Motaung, appearing unexpectedly alongside the SuperSport TV crew without an invitation, reminded the fans that the Chiefs’ rebuild was a process requiring some patience.

“It’s a process, it’s a journey…give it patience and time. I love these people [the fans],” he said.
Motaung continued: “To build it, it takes time. It’s not overnight success, it’s a process. We’re there. The league is not over yet.”

Amakhosi signed Thabo Cele, Glody Lilepo, and Tashreeq Morris during the January transfer window. The trio started the last two matches, with Lilepo and Morris contributing to all three goals scored by Chiefs against AmaZulu FC and Stellenbosch.

“Quality is what we wanted to help the young boys. Experience and quality that’s all we wanted to do. This jersey is very heavy….”

Nabi had earlier echoed similar statements, saying “the process continues”. “We’re on the right track even though some people don’t believe. This is a process…. first the process and after the results.”

The Tunisian mentor praised the club’s conditioning coach, Majdi Safi, for his exceptional work. It was Amakhosi’s third match within seven days.

“It’s a very good performance. Thank you to the players, particularly my conditioning coach, Majdi. This is game number three in seven days, and you look at the conditioning and physical performances of my players. It was incredible. Majdi is a high-level conditioning coach. And congratulations to the players because they promised me today that they’ll give 200% for three points for myself and the supporters.”

Nabi will now turn his focus to the Nedbank Cup last 16, in which they play Chippa United next Saturday at the FNB Stadium.
