Pitso Mosimane’s verdict: ‘Nabi not convincing at Chiefs’
Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has given his verdict on Kaizer Chiefs under the guidance of Nasreddine Nabi, stating that the Tunisian mentor is not ‘convincing’.
Nabi took over the hot seat at Chiefs ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership, aiming to bring the Soweto giants back to their former glory by building a title-contending team.
Chiefs have endured a near decade-long trophy drought, with their last silverware coming in the 2014/15 season when they won both the MTN8 and the league title.
In Nabi’s first few months at the helm, Chiefs have struggled to find consistent form after winning only six league matches, drawing six and losing four times. The Glamour Boys are sitting fifth on the log table with 22 points after 16 games, and they are 17 points adrift of log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
With Chiefs’ chances of winning the Betway Premiership title seemingly fading away, the Naturena-based side has its sights set on the Nedbank Cup as its remaining chance for silverware this season.
Kaizer Chiefs will face Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 15 January 2025. Kickoff is at 18h00.
PITSO MOSIMANE SHARES THOUGHTS ON CHIEFS UNDER NABI
In an interview on 5FM, Mosimane spoke about his chances of coaching the big three in the near future. He said that Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are in a good space while Chiefs are not convincing. The experienced coach recently stepped down from his job at Esteghlal FC in Iran due to unpaid salaries.
“There’s no problem [with coaching the big three]. I’m professional, and I coach anywhere in the world as long as the project is right,” said Mosimane.
“I know all the coaches you mentioned [Miguel Cardoso, Jose Riveiro and Nasreddine Nabi]. I think Pirates have a good coach and they are on the roll, we should not disturb them.
“At Kaizer Chiefs, Nabi is trying to do something. He’s getting there, but he’s not really convincing. I guess he’s trying his best, Chiefs is a biggest club anyway.
“The billionaires [Sundowns] are good. They could always buy anybody. They could even buy Pep Guardiola if they want, so they don’t need help. I’m happy that we left them at a better place, and I’m proud of them because I didn’t level any mess there; I left trophies.”
