SAFA expel ABC Motsepe League side
SAFA Mpumalanga has made a firm decision to expel Mpumalanga Football Academy from the provincial ABC Motsepe League.
This decisive action taken by SAFA comes after the Mpumalanga Football Academy’s failure to honour their three official league matches this season.
According to the league’s regulations, missing three games in a row indicates that Mpumalanga Football Academy has violated the league’s rules and guidelines. Consequently, the team has been expelled from the league.
The SAFA Mpumalanga took this decision to set an example to other clubs that might compromise the integrity of the provincial amateur league in the future.
The Mpumalanga Football Academy missed one Nedbank Cup qualification game at the start of the season, then against Tiger Boys on the 14th of December 2024, the third game was away to Sibange Young Bucks on the 18th of January 2025.
WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES MPUMALANGA FOOTBALL ACADEMY WILL FACE AFTER THEIR EXPULSION
The expulsion of the Mpumalanga Football Academy carries major consequences for the club, as they will be barred from league participation going forward, and all their prior match results will be considered void.
This is the second team that did not finish the 2024/25 season. In November 2024, Appollo XI FC pulled out just seven games into the league due to poor match officiating. The club believed that their choice to withdraw from the league would show SAFA the need to address the misconduct in the Mpumalanga amateur league regarding referees.
As things stand, The league will move forward with updated schedules, and the other teams will keep competing to qualify for the SA football third-tier national playoffs and gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Meanwhile, Middelburg United are placed top of the log standings with 35 points from 16 outings. They are equal in points with the second-placed FC Sivutsa NPC.
