Arthur Zwane – ‘That’s our advantage…myself and Kanu’

AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane has discussed the shared strength he and fellow co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi bring to the team.

The Usuthu joint coaches took the reins following the exit of Pablo Franco Martin, who was sacked after the club lost its first three matches of the Betway Premiership season.

In the 15 matches they have overseen since their appointment, Usuthu have recorded seven wins, two draws, and six losses across all competitions.

Zwane believes one of the team’s improvements under their leadership has been the progress of young players.

He attributes this improvement to the both coaches’ background in junior football. Zwane and Vilakazi gained valuable experience at that level before moving into senior team roles.

HOW USUTHU YOUNGSTERS ARE PROFITING FROM VILAKAZI AND ZWANE

“Look, I think our advantage, myself and coach Kanu, is us being in the development structures, you know, for quite some time and trying to understand how these players, especially young players do things,” said Zwane.

“And sometimes you become too harsh on them. But you also look at the situation as to can he be able to take the pressure? And if he can, then you put him under pressure and challenge him because you want to get the best out of him.”

One of the young players who have quickly improved under the tutelage of Zwane and Vilakazi is Rowan Human who has scored two goals and record five assists in 18 matches in all competitions so far this season.

‘HUMAN, ONE OF PLAYERS WHO HAVE RESPONDED WELL’

“I think he [Human] is one of the players that have responded positively. And we needed now to take him to another level, to push him because he can be a player that is very, very important for the club in a very long time. And which is good because it’s also the investment of the club,” he added.

“So, it’s always good for us to see the young stars doing well for themselves and also carrying the team.

“And I think this is the season of young stars, you know, doing very well. You know, so we’re also trying to push all the young stars that we have, the likes of [Andiswa] Sithole and Msindisi [Kunene].

“We’re trying to…we want to give them the opportunity. But obviously, at this time of the season, you’re also trying to strike a balance in terms of getting the results, grinding the results away from home.”
