Magesi stun CT City to boost relegation survival hopes, Bay defeat PLK City

Magesi FC stunned Cape Town City FC to boost their relegation survival hopes in the Betway Premiership while Richards Bay FC defeated Polokwane City FC.

The Limpopo-based side – Magesi claimed a convincing 2-0 victory over CT City at Seshego Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Magesi found the back of the net courtesy of Sekhukhune United loanee Mcedi Vandala and Lehlohonolo Mtshali.

Magesi are currently sitting 15th league table with 11 points after 16 matches. They had a dismal start to the Premiership season after winning only two games, drawing five while suffering nine defeats.

The challenging start to the SA’s top-flight after gaining promotion at the start of the season saw Magesi part ways with head coach Clinton Larsen. Owen Da Gama has since been roped in to replace Larsen.

Despite struggling for form in the league, Magesi won the 2024 Carling Knockout Cup after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the final in November last year.

Before beating The Citizens, Magesi last tasted victory in September 2024 when they brushed aside Golden Arrows with the 1-0 scoreline.

The Johnny Mogaladi-owned team won eight league matches this season, drew five and lost on four occasions. On the other hand, Richards Bay are unbeaten in their last three matches in the league.

The Natal Rich Boyz defeated Marumo Gallants 2-1 in the previous outing. Before that they drew 0-0 with Magesi.

In another late night kickoff, TS Galaxy clinched a later win after beating Chippa United 1-0 at Mbombela Stadium.
