Nabi speaks out on rejecting Tunisia job to stay with Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has spoken out on rejecting the Tunisian National Team job, committing himself to Amakhosi.
The Tunisian tactician has been with the Soweto giants since the beginning of the current season, entrusted with the crucial mission of revitalising the club after their nearly ten-year trophy drought.
He left the AS FAR Rabat job after a one-season stint to join Amakhosi, who had been seeking his services for some time, dating back to his successful spell with Young Africans in Tanzania.
Now, while enduring an inconsistent start with Chiefs, Nabi received an offer to coach the Tunisian National Team, who are aiming for success at the upcoming AFCON in Morocco later this year.
He stated that he declined this significant opportunity to coach his “mother country”, emphasising that he considers it a profound privilege to be part of the mighty Kaizer Chiefs.
NABI ON REJECTING TUNISIA JOB – ‘I FEEL IT’S AN HONOUR TO BE HERE’
“I’d like to say thank you to Dr Kaizer Motaung, to Kaizer Jr, Bobby Motaung and the entire management,” said Nabi after Chiefs’ 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC in a league tie on Friday in Cape Town.
“I have been offered an opportunity to go coach my country and we [Chiefs management] have sat together and decided that I’m going to pass this big opportunity to coach my mother country.
“But I feel it’s an honour to be here and I say thank you to everyone and the management.”
Nabi was happy with their victory away from home against Stellies. The Phefeni Glamour Boys completed a league double over Steve Barker’s troops this season. They previously defeated them 2-1 in the first round.
CHIEFS’ NABI EXCITED ABOUT AWAY WIN OVER STELLIES
“I’m very happy for the performance today and for the three points,” added Nabi. “It’s not easy to beat in a few weeks or two times a team like Stellenbosch because it’s a very good team with a very good coaching staff.
“And as well to win in Cape Town, it’s not always easy. We’re very happy for the three points and the performance.”
