Gabriel reveals where Richards Bay FC are better than all PSL teams

Despite being at the bottom half of the table, Richards Bay FC coach Ronnie Gabriel has boldly stated where his team is better than every other PSL team.

The Natal Rich Boyz are showing determination to climb up the table after a disappointing first round in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.

The KZN outfit seems to be finding its stride, having collected two wins on the trot, beating Marumo Gallants [2-1] and the in-form Polokwane City [2-0].

The Zululand side is 12th in the league standings after accumulating 16 points from 17 matches.

Speaking after their victory over Rise and Shine on Saturday night at the King Zwelithini Stadium, Gabriel explained that their recent turnaround was expected as the team had consistently performed well despite previously failing to secure wins.

He further asserted that they are the best team in the league in terms of creating goal-scoring opportunities.

RONNIE GABRIEL’S BOLD CLAIM ABOUT RICHARDS BAY

“I kept saying week in and week out, we were playing well, and the results were not coming,” said Gabriel. “And for someone not watching the game, they would have thought that I’m just saying something just to take away the focus.

“But you know, it has been this type of performance against [Orlando] Pirates, [Mamelodi] Sundowns, the big teams. Against SuperSport [United], we dropped points in the last minute. We dropped points that you know what, we could have really been up there in the top eight by now because the group is playing good football. They’re playing high-tempo football, good football, and aggressive football. We’re playing on the front foot.

“We’re gaining ascendancy, we’re taking control of games, and we’re creating numerous goal-scoring chances. If you look at the stats, we’ve been creating more goals-scoring chances than any other team in the league if you look at the stats.

“It’s just our conversion rate was not where it was supposed to be. But the goals are coming, and we’ll get better, and we shouldn’t get big-headed after two victories on the trot. We know we are still at the bottom half of the league.

“We have to continue to work hard. Our team is a hard-running team. It means that we have to continue to work hard, be humble, realise our position in the league, and know that we have to get higher up the league.

“That’s what this team is capable of; they deserve to be higher up in the league.”
