Rebbeca Joy Adams returns to SA, reveals reasons why

Rebecca Joy Adams, the first South African female footballer to play in Brazil, has returned to the country after her stint with Namibian side, Windhoek City FC.

The 27-year-old attacker spent a season with Windhoek City [formerly Ramblers Women FC], where she had penned a one-year contract with the club.

During her stay at the Namibian side, ‘Becca’, as she is affectionately known, helped the club finish eighth on the table with 24 points from 22 outings in the league.

Overseas, the Cape Town-born competed in college football in the United States of America [USA] for the Northeast Texas community, where she caught the attention of the Brazilian outfit, Sao Bernado.

Meanwhile, in South Africa, she played for Vasco da Gama, which was competing in the Sasol League Women’s League, prior to her move to the USA.

WHAT PROMPTED REBECCA JOY ADAMS’ RETURN?

Adams revealed to this publication that she felt it was the right to play on home soil and showcase what she has learnt abroad. She also thinks that this will assist her in attracting the attention of the Banyana Banyana coach, Dr Desiree Ellis.

“Well, it was really simple in terms of getting exposure to playing internationally. So, now it’s time that the whole country and Banyana Banyana to see who Rebecca Joy is because the past five seasons I have been overseas playing in the highest leagues including Brazil,” She told FARPost

“Now is the time to be back to show what I have learnt and what I have experienced and put everything into perspective.

“So, that is obviously why I’m back in South African football. Also, just to gain some momentum here and to see how everything is like and build from there.”

REBBECA JOY ADAMS ON HER EXPERIENCES IN NAMIBIA

Adams went on to share her experience during her stay in Namibia, describing it as something “unique”.

“The experiences in Namibia were quite different and unique. However, in terms of Namibian football, there is not enough space compared to South Africa’s Hollywoodbets Super League and the Sasol League, where we as attackers strive,” she added.

“Obviously, South African football is bigger than Namibian football, but the experience in the first division was quite cool. It is something I always wanted to experience and to go outside of South African standards.”

Adams will be in the books of the Western Cape Sasol League side Badgers FC.
