Former Chiefs attacker Sekgota trying his luck at Upington City FC

Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Kgaogelo Sekgota is on trial with the Motsepe Foundation Championship club Upington City FC, hoping to earn a contract.

The left-footer is looking to swiftly secure a move to a new club following his recent exit from the Betway Premiership side Magesi FC.

Despite joining at the beginning of the current campaign, Sekgota’s time with the Limpopo outfit was short-lived, lasting only six months.

Magesi had secured his services as part of their efforts to bolster the squad for their top-flight debut campaign following their promotion from the second tier. However, things didn’t work out as expected, as he couldn’t earn a consistent place in the starting line-up.

According to a source, the second-tier side has yet to make a decision on the former Bidvest Wits man.

SEKGOTA TRAINING WITH UPINGTON CITY

“He has been training with Upington City lately. The club hasn’t decided on him yet. They are still assessing him,” the source told FARPost.

The 27-year-old could serve as a valuable addition to the attacking line of the Northern Cape-based side, who recently lost Victor Bakah to their second-tier rivals, Durban City FC.

In November, Upington completed the signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns player Promise Mkhuma, who had also been under assessment for some time.

To bolster their squad for the remainder of the season, the Brandon Truter-coached side secured loan deals for promising young talents Jabulani Mokone and Seth Green from Orlando Pirates in the January transfer window.

They further strengthened the team by signing experienced midfielder Thato Mokeke, previously with SuperSport United and Cape Town City FC. The left-footed midfielder had last been in action during his time at Cape Town Spurs prior to their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

‘Bafana Ba Gucci’ are currently within the bottom half of the Championship table, sitting in 11th place with 23 points after 18 games played so far.
