Mike Makaab shares more insights on Campbell’s promotion at Club Brugge

Shandre Campbell’s agent Mike Makaab has shared more insights on the player’s promotion from the Club NXT to the Club Brugge senior team.

The 19-year-old was recently called up to the senior team following stellar performances in the club’s feeder team.

Campbell joined Club NXT at the beginning of the current season from SuperSport United and has enjoyed a meteoric rise to become a key figure in the team.

In 13 matches he has played in the Challenger Pro League – the second-tier league in Belgium, he has scored six goals and registered one assist in the process.

According to Makaab, Campbell’s integration into the first team in the Premier Division will be permanent, but he will also continue featuring in the Club NXT matches.

“He will train with the first team full time, but he will also continue playing with the Club NXT,” said Makaab during the interview with FARPost. “You must understand that Club Brugge and Club NXT are one and the same. They also share facilities.

“So, for the moment, he will be with the first team on a permanent basis and also still play at Club NXT.

“And the Belgian League, at any stage, they don’t have to wait for any transfer window. You can be transferred from Club NXT to Club Brugge even if it’s the last month of the season.”

Interestingly, Campbell was an unused substitute in Club Brugge’s most recent fixture against OH Leuven, which resulted in a 1-0 victory for his team.

The last South African to play for Club Brugge was Percy Tau, who joined the Belgian side on loan from his parent club, Brighton and Hove Albion, in the English Premier League.

Tau’s stint at Club Brugge was brief, lasting only the 2019/20 season, but it was a successful one, culminating in a league title under manager Philippe Clement.
