Fadlu Davids reacts to love shown by Simba fans

Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids has highlighted the brotherhood and support from the fans as a key factor after his side climbed back to the top of the Tanzanian Premier League.

Davids and his charges are on 47 points, one above rivals Young Africans with 18 matches played with 15 wins, two draws and one defeat

The former Orlando Pirates co-coach has been embraced by the Simba fans since his arrival at the beginning of the season. Club fans also carried a banner that read ‘Coach Fadlu, you’re the best. We respect and love you’.

This was during Simba’s impressive 3-0 win against Tanzania Prisons on Tuesday in a league tie at the KMC Complex – Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

“First of all, I want to thank the fans for showing their support to [Ladaki] Chasambi. With the banner [from the fans] and that support, that’s what we need,” said Davids after the match.

“Simba is more than just a club. It’s a family, and we felt the support from the fans today. We felt it truly in terms of how they supported the team in such a difficult moment.

“He is a young player, a national treasure and a huge talent. Thanks to the players for supporting him [Chasambi], and I am so happy he came to silence the critics by scoring a goal.”

Davids was referring to one of his players Ladaki Chasambi who has been under heavy criticism after scoring an own goal in their last match.

“You can’t win trophies and win championships only with good players and a good system. You also need a brotherhood, and we felt that brotherhood and support from the fans to the team, and we want to thank them for that,” added Davids.

The 43-year-old has also guided Simba to the quarter-final stage of the CAF Confederations Cup.
