How long Thabiso Sesane is expected to be out injured

Thabiso Sesane’s recent injury has left Orlando Pirates supporters wondering about his recovery timeline and when he might return to action. FARPost examines the expected duration of his absence.

The centre-back sustained an injury last Wednesday in Pirates’ hard-fought 2-1 victory against Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership in Polokwane. He was substituted as early as 18 minutes into the match after suffering a ruptured tendon injury.

After the game, he was seen walking on crutches with a foot support brace. The injury saw Sesane miss a crucial league match against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday. The Soweto giants went on to lose 4-1 at a sold-out Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

On Saturday, The Sea Robbers revealed the extent of Sesane’s injury, stating that the 24-year-old will undergo surgery.

THABISO SESANE SET TO BE OUT FOR FOUR TO SIX MONTHS DUE TO RUPTURED TENDON INJURY

According to MyHealthy.Alberta.ca, a ruptured tendon injury after surgery takes up to four to six months to heal. However, the recovery progress can take longer, depending on the severity of the injury.

After surgery, the ankle will be swollen, and ice can be used to reduce it. But it will get better after a few days and slowly recover during the process.

The injury means the talented centre-back will miss the remainder of the season after displaying consistent performances on the field.

Pirates have many matches to play as they participate in three competitions: the league, the Nedbank Cup, and the CAF Champions League. They won the MTN8 earlier in the season and missed out in the Carling Knockout Cup.

In the current campaign, Sesane was a regular starter for Bucs. His performances earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up in October 2024 for the back-to-back 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville. However, he didn’t get an opportunity to earn his first cap.

With The Happy People, Sesane has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season and grabbed two assists. His presence on the pitch has helped Pirates to keep 14 clean sheets.

In addition, Sesane had a great match in the MTN8 final as they defeated Stellenbosch FC 3-1 in October 2024, winning the Man of the Match award.
