Why Limpopo club roped in ex-Chiefs midfielder Siphelele Ntshangase
Limpopo ABC Motsepe League side Sunrise FC have shed light on their decision to sign former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphelele Ntshangase despite the player’s well-documented struggles on and off the field.
The amateur club officially confirmed the acquisition of Ntshangase on Tuesday morning, a day after FARPost broke the story.
Ntshangase joins former PSL players such as Tebogo Langerman, Edward Manqele, Joseph Molangoane, and Tsheamo Mashoene, with Punch Masenemela as their co-coach at Sunrise.
Sunrise are currently placed fourth in the Stream B table with 25 points after 11 games. But the Lephalale-based side has two games in hand with The Dolphins at the summit of the log having collected 31 points.
THE REAL REASON WHY SUNRISE FC SIGNED SIPHELELE NTSHANGASE
In an interview with FARPost, the club’s co-coach, Thabiso Thobane, mentioned that they have recruited the 31-year-old to maximise the potential of their young players both on and off the field with someone of Ntshangase’s calibre.
Ntshangase’s signing comes despite a record of disciplinary problems, most notably his dismissal from Black Leopards in 2023 due to off-field misconduct. His career has also been marked by several periods of being without a club.
Thobane went on to state that Ntshangase is one player they can bank on to help them qualify for the SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs and stand a chance to gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
“The reason behind bringing Ntshangase to the club is that we wanted a midfielder who has the experience to help the youngsters do well and cope during the games,” Thobani told this website.
“But at the moment, we still need to get the best out of him. This is because he has been out of the game for quite some time, truly speaking.
“However, we believe he will add value to our midfield, given his knowledge of the game. He is someone who we needed as a club to help us challenge for the league title.”
Sunrise’s next league assignment will be against Ngwaabe City Motors, coached by former Baroka FC coach Thoka Matsemela. The match will take place on Friday, 14 February 2025.
The showdown will played at Moses Monanyane Stadium in Lephalale, with the kick-off set for 15:00.
