Vilakazi outlines AmaZulu FC ambitious targets for remainder of the season
AmaZulu FC co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has outlined the club’s ambitious targets for the remainder of the 2024/25 PSL season.
Vilakazi and Arthur Zwane took over as joint coaches at Usuthu in October, succeeding the sacked Pablo Franco Martin.
Usuthu’s stability seems to be growing under their leadership as they have been slowly accumulating the desired results. They sit in 7th position in the Betway Premiership standings, having collected 23 points from 17 games.
Vilakazi emphasised their seriousness about the Nedbank Cup, saying winning the trophy would be a major achievement for the club while it would also provide an opportunity to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
VUSI VILAKAZI ON WHAT AMAZULU ARE HOPING TO ACHIEVE
“So, I think we are on the right track; obviously, we are taking the Nedbank Cup very seriously,” said Vilakazi during the club’s media open day.
“The reason we’re doing that is that I think it’s one stone for two birds in terms of making sure that we win the cup and compete in Africa, and also [it would be] an achievement for the club, obviously. So that’s why we want to go as much as we can in terms of making sure that we win.”
AmaZulu will be looking to advance to the quarterfinals of the Ke Yona Cup when they play Marumo Gallants in the Round of 16.
The match will take place on Saturday, 15 February, at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium at 3 PM.
Vilakazi, citing their strong away record, hopes for victory at Bahlabane Ba Ntwa’s backyard.
VILAKAZI – ‘WE WILL GO FOR A KILL’
“I think we will also rely on that [strong away record] because, looking at our records, we are doing very well when we are playing away,” he added.
“But also not relying on that only, but we have to work hard. At the end of the day, if you want to win or grind results, you must work very hard.
“But I think with the confidence that we have on the team and everyone who is available, they want to participate in the game against Marumo. So I think we will go there for a kill because that’s what we want to do.”
