Makgaka speaks on desire to perform against former club Pirates

Baroka FC attacking midfielder Collins Makgaka has expressed his eagerness to excel against his former club, Orlando Pirates, in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 tie.

Baroka are set to head to Orlando Stadium in Soweto, with the match scheduled to start at 15:00.

Pirates progressed to the Round of 16 following a 3-1 victory against Richards Bay FC, while Baroka beat ABC Motsepe League team Umvoti 3-0.

The 28-year-old had joined Pirates in September 2020 after his satisfying displays for Bakgaga. He then cut ties with the Soweto giants in July 2023.

Makgaka went on to sign for Sekhukhune United in November 2023 before making his way back to Baroka in August 2024.

WHAT COLLINS MAKGAKA SAID ABOUT FACING HIS FORMER CLUB ORLANDO PIRATES

The skilled midfielder expressed his commitment to being on the pitch and achieving a favourable outcome for Baroka, as he aims to demonstrate his abilities to his old team in the game.

“I think it comes naturally [to perform well] when you play against your former team,” said Makgaka during the Nedbank Cup press conference at Baroka Village in Lebowakgomo.

“It is like there is something that you want to show. It is normal for every player to feel that way when you face a club you played for before.

“Just like myself, the last time we played against Baroka when I was at Pirates, it was the same thing and the same feeling. So, it is the same thing that is going to happen when we play Pirates. You always want to show them that it was not a mistake that you left like you just want to do your best.”

The winner in Soweto between the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka and the defending champions, Pirates will book a place in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.
