Chiefs sink Chippa to book Nedbank quarter-final spot
Kaizer Chiefs have advanced to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals after defeating Chippa United 3-0 in the tournament’s Round of 16 at FNB Stadium in Soweto on Saturday night.

KAIZER CHIEFS MAKE TWO FORCED CHANGES TO THEIR STARTING LINE-UP
The Soweto giants were forced to make two changes coming into his game from the starting line-up that faced Stellenbosch FC.
Following Thatayone Ditlhokwe’s departure who has been sold to Al-Ittihad FC based in Tripoli, Lybia, Happy Mashiane had to start in his place against The Chilli Boys.
The other player who was not in the matchday squad was Yusuf Maart, who is serving a one-match suspension.
The Amakhosi captain received a fourth booking in the club’s 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC last week Friday in the league and as a result missed the Chippa game.
The rising Samkelo Zwane replaced Maart’s place in the middle of the park this evening.
THABO SEPTEMBER ON STANLEY NWABALI’S STATE OF MIND
Chippa coach Thabo September admitted that goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was in the right state of mind to take part in this match.
The Nigerian international lost his parents in a space of two months. Nwabali lost his father in November 2024, and his mother in January 2025.
He was in goal against Chiefs and conceded three goals as well a silly mistake that led to a penalty.
“The chairman [Chippa Mpengesi] helped us to help him. Also, the whole technical staff and the players also helped. But we brought in some support [professionally] to assist him and it’s looking good. But it’s a process that thing. However, he is in good shape right now,” September told SuperSport TV in a pre-match interview.
GASTON SIRINO, INACIO MIGUEL AND PULE MMODI’S GOALS EARN KAIZER CHIEFS NEDBANK CUP QUARTER-FINAL SPOT
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star, Sirino, broke the deadlock in the 13th minute of the game to give Amakhosi a lead.
Meanwhile, Miguel added to the scoreline in the 77th minute from the spot with Pule Mmodi scoring the third goal in the 89th minute to seal victory against the Gqeberha-based outfit at the Calabash.
FANS CAME OUT IN NUMBERS
There was a good attendance at the FNB Stadium this evening with fans coming out in numbers to support Chiefs.
Other fans joined the game after the Orlando Pirates match against Baroka FC at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. Pirates defeated Bakgaga 3-1 to qualify for the eight.
