TS Galaxy coach happy despite Nedbank Cup defeat
TS Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic has explained why he’s happy despite a 2-1 defeat in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 against Durban City FC on Friday night at Chatsworth Stadium.
This was Beganovic’s first loss since taking over the head coaching position in November 2024 following the resignation of Sead Ramovic. Heading into the encounter, Galaxy had gone 13 matches in all competitions without a defeat. The team had registered seven victories and six draws.
Bosnia-Herzegovina centre forward Dzenan Zajmovic opened the scoring for The Rockets in the 49th minute. Joslin Kamatuka levelled matters for Durban City in the 79th minute. The KZN side went in front in the 107th minute of extra time through Senzo Ndlovu.
The victory saw Durban City become the first Motsepe Foundation Championship side to advance in this season’s Nedbank Cup quarter-finals. They join SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC, who have sealed spots in the Last eight.
ADNAN BEGANOVIC SAYS HIS SIDE HAD A GREAT PERFORMANCE
Beganovic says he’s happy with the performance of his players despite the defeat. Galaxy created many goalscoring opportunities; however, they only found the back of the net once.
“It’s okay; it happens [suffering a defeat]. We tried to refresh our team with new players, and we conceded our own goal [first goal],” Beganovic told SABC Sport.
“It was just two shots on goal and two goals, and we tried everything inside to be great. Maybe we had five or six great opportunities for scoring, but we did everything. It happens.
“We can’t win every game; I’m still happy with my players. We need to start with the road to recovery and put more attention on the league.”
Beganovic and his troops will shift focus to the league as they will face a tricky Stellenbosch FC side. Kickoff on Tuesday, 18 February, at Mbombela Stadium is at 7:30 PM.
“If we need to stay on top, we need to prepare our team for that game. Stellenbosch is a good team, but we play at home, and we can’t lose,” added the Galaxy coach.
“Again, we just need to be at the top; we need to be 100 per cent ready. Then if we just have success to rest our team, I think we can play a good game, and we can expect to take something from that game, going for three points.”
