DDC: Chiefs leapfrog Sundowns as Stellenbosch take top spot
Kaizer Chiefs leapfrogged Mamelodi Sundowns in the DDC standings with a commanding win over Golden Arrows while Stellenbosch ascended to the top of the table.
This week, the Seshego Stadium in Limpopo became the center of attention for the DDC football, hosting a festival of matches. Located just outside Polokwane, this stadium was recently given the green light by the PSL to host Betway Premiership fixtures, making it the home venue for Magesi FC’s senior team.
Buccaneers hammered Magesi 3-1. The club’s leading goal-scorer Siphamandla Msezana spearheaded his team’s victory with a decisive brace. His two goals were instrumental in securing the win for the Buccaneers.
Captain Mbekezeli Mbokazi added to the tally for Ezimnyama Ngenkani to wrap up the match.
Following this victory, Joseph Makhanya’s men climbed to 6th place on the league table with 31 points. Meanwhile, Dikwena tÅ¡a Meetse remain in 11th position with 14 points after 18 matches.
TS GALAXY’S DOWNTURN DEEPENS
Elsewhere on the same day, AmaZulu and Sekhukhune United ended in a 0-0 stalemate, while TS Galaxy’s downturn deepened, extending their winless to six matches after a 2-2 draw with Chippa.
On Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs got back to winning ways, overcoming Golden Arrows 4-0 after their setback against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Naledi Hlongwane’s brace and Kabelo Nkgwetsa and Neo Bohloko’s goals propelled the Phefeni Glamour Boys to their 12th victory in this campaign.
In other reserve league action, Stellenbosch FC grabbed a narrow 1-0 victory over Polokwane City, a result that sees them ascend to the summit of the reserve league table. Richards Bay FC defeated Marumo Gallants 2-1, while SuperSport United drew 2-2 with Cape Town City.
