Langerman reveals salary details from Mamelodi Sundowns stint

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Tebogo Langerman has disclosed details of his salary during his time with the Tshwane giants.

Langerman had a successful career with Sundowns between 2014 and 2021, where he won major trophies, including the 2016 CAF Champions League and the Premiership.

The left-back spent seven seasons with the Tshwane giants and amassed over 250 appearances. He scored seven goals and provided 24 assists in the process.

Langerman broke into the PSL scene with the now-defunct Bidvest Wits in 2009. In the same year, Langerman left Wits to join SuperSport United, where he gained prominence as one of the most talented defenders in the SA top-flight.

After an impressive showing with SuperSport, the former Bafana Bafana international was snapped up by Sundowns in 2012.

Following his impressive stay at Sundowns, Langerman left the club in 2021 to join Moroka Swallows who have since sold their PSL status at the start of the current season.

The left-footed star, who is nearing the end of his football career, is now turning out for ABC Motsepe League side Sunrise FC.

LANGERMAN REVEALS THAT HE WAS EARNING R75 000 AT SUNDOWNS

During his time at Sundowns under coach Pitso Mosimane, Langerman recounted how the coach brought in Mzikayise Mashaba from Free State Stars to play left-back, offering Mashaba a higher salary.

“I told the coach that you are not the one who brought me here [at Sundowns], and when the season ended, he signed Mzikayise Mashaba, and I know that when it comes to technique, no one is better than me even now in the Betway [Premiership],” Langerman said on YouTube podcast Trap and Pass.

“So, in the first season when Pitso arrived, we were fighting relegation, and in the second season, he signed his players like Mashaba. I found out that Mashaba was getting paid more than me. I was getting R75 000, and Mashaba was getting R90 000 coming from Free State Stars.

“And when Muzi arrived at Sundowns, he came knowing my salary already. The person who signed him is the one who told him my salary.

“So when Muzi came, he already knew that he was going to replace me, and that’s one of the things that made me and Pitso not get along.”
