Leruma United make coaching changes

Motsepe Foundation Championship newcomers Leruma United have made a major coaching change just two weeks after Musa Nyatama’s arrival. The club roped in the former Moroka Swallows coach earlier this month.

This is after the then-coach Mpho Maleka was tasked with assembling the squad despite the well-publicized troubles.

Earlier in the season, the club was accused of breaching the players’ contracts with claims of unpaid salaries. Leruma are currently bottom of the log with only 12 games left to play this season.

WHAT COACHING CHANGES DID LERUMA UNITED MAKE RECENTLY?

This publication has gathered that the club have parted ways with coach Mpho Maleka with immediate effect. Maleka joined the club from Betway Premiership side Marumo Gallants at the beginning of the season.

When reached out for a comment, Maleka confirmed that he was no longer part of the club.

“I was called into the office and told that since I was working alone, they now want to give coach Musa [Nyatama] a chance to work alone too,” he told FARPost.

“I had been asking the management to bring manpower. You can not be a head coach, assistant, fitness trainer or video analyst all in one. So seeing Musa coming in with a goalkeeper coach, I was thinking now, at least what I asked was being brought to the club,” he added.

“So I was surprised when I was told that, as I was working alone all along for the past seven months, they want to give Musa a chance to work alone too. That’s what I was told,” explained Maleka.

“Otherwise I am happy with what I have achieved in terms of personality and building the character towards football.”

The 2020 Nedbank Cup winning coach could not comment when asked what his next move would be.
