‘What he does on the field is incredible’: Nabi on Chiefs star

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has singled out one of his players for high praise, going into detail about their contributions to the team.

The Tunisian tactician was speaking after Amakhosi sealed a comfortable and impressive 3-0 victory over Chippa United in the Nedbank Last 16 on Sunday afternoon at the FNB Stadium.

This victory secured a quarterfinal spot for the Phefeni Glamour Boys, keeping their hopes alive of ending a near decade-long trophy drought.

While addressing the media during the press conference, Nabi commended Pule Mmodi’s “consistent” performances, saying he has been one of the best players for his side recently.

While acknowledging a few missed opportunities, the former Young Africans coach recognised the winger’s hard work on the pitch.

He specifically highlighted Mmodi’s ability to trouble defenders, earn crucial set-pieces for the team, and his immense defensive contribution in tracking back during opponent attacks.

“Mmodi, what he does on the field, it’s incredible,” said Nabi. “Sometimes you look at one or two opportunities that he has missed. But he’s a winger. His first attribute is to score goals.

“Maybe he should have scored easy opportunities that he has gotten. But for me, he was the best player on the field [against Chippa].

“He is a player that works consistently; he’s a player that poses a threat to his direct opponent all the time.

“Maybe you would see all the set-pieces or free-kicks that he gets for us. Even when we are defending, he is a player that tracks back all the time.

“He works for the team; he works incredibly, very well for the team. And we need to congratulate him. We believe that he was the best player on the field. And he has been one of the best players.”

Mmodi signed for Chiefs at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. This season, the former Golden Arrows star has made 12 appearances, scoring three goals in the process.
